GEORGIAN ACROSTIC ‘LOVE’ HEART LOCKET

A stunning acrostic Georgian Heart locket made of 15ct yellow gold.

The heart is set with four gems; The first letter of each stone spells out a secret acrostic message: 'LOVE’

(L)apis, (O)pal, (V)emeil, (E)merald.

The centre is set with a further small turquoise cabochon which represents true love or ‘forget-me-not.

The front and reverse of the puffy heart is textured with applied bead work.

The heart opens to reveal a glass compartment, which still has the original glass panel with a very slight curve!

The heart hangs from a rope twist bail.

Acrostic sentimental jewellery was extremely popular at the beginning of 19th century.

These lockets were given as a token of love, to show that your loved one holds you very close to their heart.
