A charming elephant hair and 9ct gold plaited ring.
The ring has two strands of thick elephant hair, plaited together with twisted 9ct gold strands. The strands are joined by a silver gilt rectangle.
The ring looks gorgeous on the finger alone, or as a cool stacker.
Known to bring luck to their wearer, elephant hair jewellery became a popular accessory during Victorian times.
It was bought as an exotic souvenir during the British Raj, when Western European adventurers started visiting India and would commission elephant hair jewellery as a souvenir of their safari experience.
The strands of tail hair were often found discarded on the safari and around the watering holes, where it had been shed. It was collected and made into jewellery, often accenting with gold.
Elephant hair jewellery has been made since and is seen to prevent illness and harm, as well as bring love and luck.
