A gorgeous purple topped Tigre Cowrie shell pendant.
Likely made in the early 19th century, the cowrie shell has been set in a beautifully smooth high carat gold rub over setting that follows the organic form of the shell edge perfectly.
The pendant can be worn either way round, with the purple and tan shades at the front or, with the shell opening at the front.
Both sides of the pendant look beautiful.
Cowrie shells have been used in many cultures for centuries for jewellery, religious rituals and even currency!
They are said to bring good luck and to protect the spirit of the wearer.
They also are a sign of femininity and fertility.
I love the natural form and muted colours, that are complimented but the beautiful gold setting.
