A charming French 18ct gold double sided sepia mourning locket.

The locket contains a beautiful painting of an Urn on the grave beneath a hairwork Weeping Willow tree.

Around the border reads an old French poem about loss.

‘Tu m’est ravie seule j’en connois le pris’

This translates as;

‘You’ve been taken away from me, alone I bear the price/weight of it’

On the reverse the locket reads:

Deceased 21st February 1807 age 44 years old

MMC neé VW

A beautiful example of an early 19th century French mourning piece.

Diameter approx: 3.3cm

In excellent condition, there is a slight warp to the painting in the back of the locket, but the writing is still fully readable.

The locket is set on 18ct gold, and has the original curved glass!
