A superb Ouroboros snake 15ct gold ring, which can also be used as a chain extender or pendant.
Circa 1830/40; the ring is modelled as a snake biting his tail.
The snakes body is tapered at either end and super chunky in the middle.
There is lovely crosshatch chasing along the body, and the snake has a carved head which is almost dolphin like.
This particular ring is extra unique as the snake has gem set cabochon eyes.
This piece can be used to add charms to a chain, or, worn as a ring.
Also because of the size it makes an excellent chain extender.
The Ouroboros has been a popular symbol since ancient times. Literally meaning ‘tail-devourer’. The symbol represented the concept of ‘eternity’ and ‘love everlasting’.
