A supercool Shibayama silver insect locket pendant.
Shibayama is an art from Japan that became popular in the mid 19th century.
It is the technique of layering tiny pieces of semiprecious materials such as mother of pearl, coral, shell and horn onto a lacquer and silver base.
They created these weird and wonderful insects of different colours, designed with great anatomical detail, with the insect legs etched into the silver.
All the bodies of the insects shimmer beautifully as they catch the light.
The locket currently does not have the glass inners, but could be used to hold a keepsake.
But really it’s the bugs that do the talking.
A great size, and looks really epic on a chunky chain.
