A supercool antique elephant hair bangle.
The gorgeous bangle is made up of multiple strands of dark elephant hair.
The bangle has an 18ct gold shield at the centre front and two 18ct gold ball finials.
The bangle can be made larger and smaller by sliding the ball finials together or apart.
This said, the bangle suits a medium sized wrist as it still needs to fit over the hand and can only be made slightly smaller with the sliding mechanism.
All gold work is 18ct and hallmarked on the reverse of the shield.
Elephant hair became a popular accessory during Victorian times.
It was bought as an exotic souvenir during the British Raj, when Western European adventurers started visiting India and would commission elephant hair jewellery as a souvenir of their safari experience.
The strands of tail hair were often found discarded on the safari and around the watering holes, where it had been shed. It was collected and made into jewellery, often accenting with gold.
Elephant hair jewellery has been made since and is seen to prevent illness and harm, as well as bring love and luck.
The bracelet can be worn alone but also looks fantastic stacked with multiple bangles.
