ANTIQUE SILVER GILT FLY EARRINGS

A cool pair of antique silver gilt fly earrings.

Likely early 20th century, these earring are made from silver gilt, with filigree wings and backs.

The faces have boggle eyes, and I love that the reverse shows the tummy and all the legs as the design is 3D.

The earrings have 9ct gold shepherds hook wires.

Fly jewellery was extremely popular from the mid 19th century into the early 20th century. The craze was started by the Victorians who were obsessed with bugs and wildlife.
