BALLOON CUFFED CELLULOID HAND PENDANT

A wonderful balloon cuffed hand pendant made of celluloid.

The cuff is cast in a ruffled balloon shape, with rose carvings at the top and bottom.

The hand is clasping a 9ct gold ring, which is perfect for adding a selection of pendants.

This is a beautiful rare example of the earliest type of plastic - celluloid, which was first made in 1855 in Birmingham.

From 1860 onwards Celluloid was used for everything from hair combs and jewellery to silent-movie film.

A fantastic and rare find.
