Victorian period
A gorgeous early Victorian articulated paste collar, circa 1840.
The collar is set with wonderfully bright old cut paste stones.
The stones are set in silver, and the design has tapered sections, with articulated hinges making the piece mould perfectly to the neck when worn.
Terminating in silver ribbon loops, the collar can be worn for any neck size, you just add a silk or velvet ribbon to fasten.
Interestingly this piece would have originally had a dual purpose, as a necklace and tiara. The original tubular fittings can still be seen at the back of the necklace.
This is a rare piece of superior quality antique paste
