A gorgeous cobolt blue oval early Victorian ‘Tassie’ glass intaglio depicting a chubby Cupid playing a lyre.
The lyre symbolises many things, from wisdom to success to harmony and peace.
The intaglio has been set in a very simple 9ct gold setting, to allow the story of the piece to take centre stage.
Size approx: 1.5cm x 2.8cm (incl bail), Depth 0.4cm
The stone is fairly rubbed, but still holds a charm, and deserves to be cherished for many years to come.
A Tassie is a paste or glass copy of a cameo or intaglio.
Scottish gem engraver James Tassie created replicas of ancient engraved agates and gemstones and developed a formula for an opaque glass that could replicate various colors and patterns.
