Georgian period
This is a wonderful, early 19th century fob crafted in high carat gold.
Circa 1820/30; The fob contains an oval Chalcedony stone, with a finely carved intaglio of a ‘Horse passant’ and a large shield with a further 3 horse heads.
Below the shield is a ribbon banner with the words:
J’AVANCE which translates as ‘I ADVANCE’
or ‘I MOVE FORWARD’
The horse is beautifully detailed, with a proud chest and flowing mane and tail.
It is rare to find horse intaglios and especially of such fine quality.
The high carat gold is reeded and has a ball finial at the top.
The fob hangs from a faceted 15ct gold split ring, making it really easy to add to chains of any size.
The family crest plate can be found in the ‘Fairbairns Book of family crests’
