An absolutely stunning pair of early 19th century Ouroboros Snake hoop earrings.
Circa 1820/30, these French earrings have been crafted in a lovely 18ct yellow gold.
The earrings have been designed to depict a snake biting its own tail when fastened.
The ouroboros snake represents eternity and eternal love, and was a popular symbol in 18th and 19th centuries.
The earrings have a lovely cross hatch chasing and a very defined snake face.
As with many earrings of this period, they are ‘back loaders’ so the earring pass from the back of the ear to the front to fasten.
The hinge is in excellent working order, and the earrings fasten securely.
Antique snake hoops are very rare to find, and these are in beautiful condition.
Perfect for everyday wear.
Diameter approx: 1.5cm
Weight approx: 3.2g
