Georgian period
A large late Georgian gold fob with a carnelian intaglio seal.
The seal has a gorgeous carving of a large ‘Leopard couchant’ (A resting Leopard).
There is so much detail in the carving, down to the whiskers and teeth!
This is a solid gold fob made of chased 15ct gold.
The bale is chunky and reeded.
The size is perfect to hang from a chain to make a statement on its own or to be added to part of a neck mess.
The Leopard crest can be found in ‘The Fairbairns book of family crests’ and is attributed to seven families:
Avery, Barnoby, Bootle, Donkin, Hinchley, Lenche and Packenham.
It’s rare to find Georgian intaglios of cats, so I’m super pleased to have found this beauty!
