This is a gorgeous late Georgian black enamel mourning ring.
In fact the inscription is dated 1837 which was the final year of the Georgian period.
The head of the ring is a quatrefoil shape with a central hair locket, surrounded by black enamel.
The glass is fairly rubbed, but doesn’t take away from the beauty of the ring.
The shoulders have a wonderful floral spray pattern.
The inscription reads:
‘James Lyon ob 27 July 1837, age 77.’
The ring is hallmarked with the head of William IV and the hallmark for Edinburgh! Also bears the 18ct gold mark.
Just a lovely piece of history
Size approx UK: K, US: 5 1/4
I also have this rings twin! Another mourning ring with a similar styling - see pics
