A superb supersized Victorian pinchbeck puffy heart locket pendant and snake chain.

Circa 1880, this striking piece has a huge puffy heart locket with a chased swirl design over the front and back.

The workmanship is as good as any fine gold piece, with an almost hidden hinge.

The heart opens to reveal a large cavity which could be used for a keepsake.

The heart hangs from the original matching bail.

The chain is a super chunky flat snake link, with a hidden tongue clasp.

The links are articulated so the chain sits really nicely around the neck!

The chain has a central fixed bail with a dogclip, so the heart can be attached, or the chain can be worn with other pendants of your choice, making it really versatile.

This piece has such a contemporary look.

The over scaled size looks supercool when worn!

MATERIALS

Pinchbeck - Pinchbeck is a brass alloy. That looks very similar to gold, and doesn’t tarnish like other metal alloys.

It was invented in the early 18th century by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clock- and watch-maker.

It is collectible in its own right!

CONDITION

Excellent - minor tarnish in places including top of heart.

Some very minor variation in distance between articulated links next to bail - see photos for details
