MANO CORNUTO HAND HIGH CARAT GOLD PENDANT

An exceptional and rare solid high carat gold Mano Cornuto hand pendant (think rock hand symbol). 

The hand pendant dates from the early 19th century, circa 1830.

It’s more common to find these in coral or mother of pearl, however this one is solid, high carat gold with a wonderful chased cuff and bail.

The detail in the carving is excellent. 

The ‘Mano Cornuto’ or ‘Horned Hand’ is an ancient Italian amulet which was worn for protection against the Evil Eye.

The horned hand, which resembles a horned animal, is made by extending the index and little finger while clenching the other two fingers and thumb.
