A charming Victorian mussel shell pendant circa 1890.
The mussel is realistically modelled in 3D with fine chasing on the front and back depicting the growth rings found on real mussels.
The mussel even opens realistically with a small hinge at the side.
The shell opens to reveal a small glass locket, currently lined in black silk.
This is such a cool design, and I love how realistic it looks. I’m a big fan of all the shell jewellery that the Victorians were obsessed with!
The mussel was seen as a symbol of love and protection.
Hallmarked 9ct inside the pendant.
