Victorian period
A lovely little 19th century Coral Lucky Bean charm.
The pendant is made of bright orange natural coral, and hangs from a 9ct gold bail and jump ring.
Lucky beans were popular during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
The charms were inspired by the "sea beans" that were found occasionally washed up on European beaches after travelling on the ocean from far flung places.
These beans amazingly could still germinate after many months at sea, this led people to believe that they must be infused with powerful good luck. Ad have since been given as gifts to bring luck and good fortune.
