VICTORIAN DARK GREEN ‘VOTRE CONSTANCE FAIT LA MIENNE’ TASSIE

A deep green ‘Tassie’ glass intaglio pendant.

The intaglio has a fine carving of the sun and a sun dial surrounded by the phrase;

‘Votre constance fait la mienne’ which translates to ‘You are faithful to me’

The glass stone looks near black, which lights up a deep bottle green in the light.

The intaglio has been set in a very simple 9ct gold setting, to allow the story of the piece to take centre stage.

A Tassie is a paste or glass copy of a cameo or intaglio.

Scottish gem engraver James Tassie created replicas of ancient engraved agates and gemstones and developed a formula for an opaque glass that could replicate various colors and patterns.
