A wonderful, late Victorian diamond Swallow brooch.

The Swallow is depicted in full flight with his wings spanned.

The diamonds are bright and clear, with a mixture of old cuts and rose cuts, covering the entire head and wings.

The large old cut diamonds make up the head and the centre of the wings, these are surround by smaller rose cuts that twinkle beautifully in the light.

The swallow also has tiny Ruby set eyes.

The setting is silver and backed with gold.

The brooch has the original pin which is rare to find. And a gold safety chain is present for security when worn.

The brooch is in fantastic condition, and one of the nicest examples I have seen.

Circa 1890/1900

Size approx: 3.5cm x 3.2cm

Weight approx: 7.5g

Excellent condition

The Swallow was a popular symbol in Victorian and later periods.

They were a romantic token, representing faithfulness.

A swallow brooch was often gifted to a loved one as they set out on a journey in a bid to keep them safe. It was a symbol of love and protection to help ensure their return.

The swallow also represents everlasting love, care, affection and loyalty towards family and friends.
