A gorgeous Victorian scarab beetle pendant with a substantial 15ct gold frame.
The scarab beetle is perfectly preserved, showing off the natural luminescent green shell.
The 15ct gold frame is super wide with a foliate chased design.
The setting is open at the back, so you can see the full detail of the beetle, which is so fascinating.
The quatrefoil bail finished off the piece perfectly, and makes it super easy to add to a chain
The trend of wearing real bug jewellery became popular in the Victorian period.
People were fascinated with the new discoveries of foreign lands, exotic animals and bugs during this time.
As urbanisation grew, the Victorians become more detached from nature, so using bugs and animals as adornment was a way to bring them a little closer to nature again!
