Victorian period
A stunning 15ct gold snake necklace with the original fitted case.
Circa 1860/70; The snakes head is made of 3 tone gold in a foliate pattern of bright yellow, red gold and white gold.
The snake is holding a small puffy heart from his mouth.
The heart is original and continues the foliate design in 3 colour gold. The reverse has a heart shaped locket.
The snake has a large flat cut garnet in his head and garnet eyes. With a further garnet in the centre of the heart.
The chain is a chunky articulated snake link, which is in great condition, and sits beautifully when worn.
The chain fastens at the side of the head. The clasp is in excellent working order, closing securely.
The fitted leather box is original, and is part of the sale.
The box is in good condition, however it does not fasten closed - see pic. This is easily remedied with an elastic band or ribbon.
This is a wonderful example of the sentimental jewellery from the Victorian era. Snake jewellery was extremely popular and represented ‘eternal love’
