ANTIQUE SCARAB & ELEPHANT HAIR BANGLE

A very cool antique elephant hair and scarab bangle.

The elephant hair bangle has a gorgeous green scarab slider attached to the centre of the bangle with a hallmarked 18ct gold back. I have never seen one with a scarab before!!! 

The bangle is made up of multiple strands of dark elephant hair which has 18ct gold ball finials.

The bangle can be made larger and smaller by sliding the ball finials together or apart.

This said, the bangle suits a medium sized wrist as it still needs to fit over the hand and can only be made slightly smaller (down to 19.5cm) with the sliding mechanism. See full sizing details below.

All gold work is 18ct and hallmarked on the reverse of the scarab.

The bangle is likely dated to the 1920’s, when the scarab symbolism and Egyptian revival was extremely popular.

Elephant hair became a popular accessory during Victorian times and continued to be used in souvenir jewellery into the first half of the 20th century.

Elephant hair jewellery was seen to prevent illness and harm, as well as bring love and luck.

The bracelet can be worn alone but also looks fantastic stacked with multiple bangles.
