A super cool antique woven elephant hair bangle.
The strands of elephant hair are intricately woven to create a chunky tube, with a cool more deconstructed panel at the centre.
The bracelet has a long gold clasp with a clever slide mechanism to open and close.
The clasp is really subtle when fastened, making the design really simple and stylish.
Elephant hair became a popular accessory during Victorian times.
It was bought as an exotic souvenir during the British Raj, when Western European adventurers started visiting India and would commission elephant hair jewellery as a souvenir of their safari experience.
The strands of tail hair were often found discarded on the safari and around the watering holes, where it had been shed. It was collected and made into jewellery, often accenting with gold.
Elephant hair jewellery has been made since and is seen to prevent illness and harm, as well as bring love and luck.
It is so cool how modern the design still looks.
The bracelet can be worn alone but also looks fantastic stacked with multiple bangles.
