EARLY 19TH CENTURY OUROBOROS SPLIT RING

A gorgeous Ouroboros snake 15ct gold split ring.

The Georgian split ring, circa 1820/30 is modelled as an Ouroboros snake biting his tail.

The ring has a textured body with a heavy diamond cross hatching and a stylised carved snakes head biting the end of his tail. 

The split ring is in excellent condition, it has no gap when closed, and works more like a key ring rather than clipping closed like other examples I have found.

This split ring can be used to add charms to a chain, or used as a cool chain extender, also for the tiny fingered amongst us, it makes a fabulous stacker ring.

The Ouroboros has been a popular symbol since ancient times. Literally meaning ‘tail-devourer’.

The Ouroboros represented the concept of ‘eternity’ and ‘love everlasting’.

I rarely find these split rings, this one I have been hoarding for quite a while!
