VICTORIAN 15CT GOLD SWALLOW PENDANT

I have a pair or near identical swallow pendants.

Swallow 1 of 2 

A lovely quality Victorian Swallow bird pendant made of 15ct gold.

The entire body and wings of the Swallow are finely chased to replicate the feathers. The detail is insane!

The bird has his wings at full stretch, and is swooping down.

The bird has gem set cabochon garnet eyes, that light up pink in the light.

The 15ct gold has a lovely patina, that is so typical of this area of jewellery.

Hallmarked 15ct on reverse.

Swallow jewellery was often given to loved ones as they set out on a journey, as a token to keep them safe.

The bird was a symbol of love and protection to help ensure their safe return.

This originated from sailors who used swallows as a sign of homecoming. The sighting of one of these birds meant that land was near.
