A super cool pair of Victorian scarab beetle earrings!
The earrings are made of two perfectly preserved Victorian scarab beetles.
They are set in a 15ct gold frame, which is designed with legs and antennas, which is completely unique.
The beetles have fabulous natural bright green luminescent shells, which are in amazing condition.
The gold setting is open at the back, so you can see the full detail of the taxidermy beetle, which is so fascinating.
The earrings have solid 14ct gold shepherds hooks.
The earrings look excellent on, and are super light so they are very comfortable to wear.
The trend of wearing real bug jewellery first became popular in the Victorian period.
People were fascinated with the new discoveries of foreign lands, exotic animals and bugs during this time.
As urbanisation grew, the Victorians become more detached from nature, so using bugs and animals as adornment was a way to bring them a little closer to nature again!
