This is a Victorian Wealemefna map measurer!

Invented and patented by Edward Morris in 1870 in Birmingham.

It is a mechanical instrument that calculates distances on maps and drawings by rolling a small steel wheel along the desired route. The dial calculates the distance in feet and inches.

This particular one is a miniature size, designed to be pocket size for travel, and likely worn on a watch chain.

It’s rare to find these made of 9ct gold, and this one is extra special as it has a locket on the reverse, likely to hold pictures of loved ones, whilst the owner was away travelling.

The entire 9ct gold case is engraved with an intricate chased design. The reverse has a large foliate design and scroll which is ready to be engraved with the new owners initial!

The face has an italic text reading; ‘Wealemefna, Morris patent’

A lovely random piece of history!

Bracelets & Bangles:

How your bracelet fits is a personal preference.
To check your preferred size, wrap a tape measure loosely around your wrist to the tightness you would like your bracelet to fit.
From the end of the tape measure to the point where it crosses the tape is your desired bracelet length.
Please compare this to the measurements specified on each of our bracelet product pages.
Note, some bracelets are adjustable – this will be mentioned in the description.
Note, if a bangle does not have an opening, you must select one that will pass over your fist.

JEWELLERY CARE

Antique Jewellery should be taken care of during wear.

Cleaning and repairs should be carried out by an antique jewellery specialist.

We recommend removing pieces of jewellery before washing hands or showering, as water can damage the antique settings.

Some pieces are not recommended for everyday wear

The Old Cut guarantees the piece up until the new customer receives the item.

Any stones that are lost or damaged during wear are not covered by The Old Cut. These will be charged for replacement, we can of course help find a suitable jeweller to support repairs.
